Head Case
"Dr Harris are you up for this?" said the balding man with an FBI badge pinned to his belt.
"Yes of course. This is new territory, cutting edge technology so don't get your hopes up."
They both turn to look through the large one way looking glass, bullet proof strength.
Dr Harris's intern assistant spoke up, "Is he violent? Dangerous?"
"He can be. But as you can see he's restrained to the chair, you would think he's about to see the dentist." No one laughed.
"Now remember Rebecca it may seem a little disturbing when he flips between okay. We talked this through earlier. You are to focus on my instructions when to give dosages and monitor his vitals. That's what you are there for. I am going to focus on what he says and what i will say."
"Will it really just be us in there alone with him?" Rebecca ask sounding a little unsure.
"Yes. A full staff setup seems to unsettle the patient, so minimal is what we have today."
"I'm sorry we made you setup here at the FBI center but with this own going case he may be targeted. This facility seems best suited to the task least to say safe."
"However the boss is still skeptical this will work given the circumstances, are you sure his words will be reliable?"
"Yes i am sure. As sure you believe you are who you are. It may not hold in court but his memories might give you more clues." She replied.
"That's what we hope for. We sure need them. You helped us tremendously in a case six months ago."
"That i did, but this is a step up wouldn't you say. But i'm confident."
The agent merely nodded.
"Okay lets begin." Dr Harris said calmly looking down the corridor where five of her orderlies
Remain seated ready at her command to enter and subdue the patient if needed. Her assistant followed her.
There were come plainclothes policeman and so uniform ones milling about too.
This was critical. The pressure on Dr Harris was great, but she covered her nervousness well.
"Hello Dan?" Dr Harris spoke warmly.
Dan who is reclined back on a chair that looks similar to a dentist chair looks up at her.
He is dressed in a blue hospital gown and isn't wearing any shoes. His arms and legs are restrained to the chair by large straps.
"Hello Dr Harris. I still don't know why you have me restrained to this chair. I'm not going to hurt anyone." sounding a little hurtful.
"I know that. But.."
"But its for my well being when the drugs take affect right?" Dan said.
"Yes that's right."
The assistant came up to the Dr and spoke into her ear,"Does he know? That he's.."
"No. But he doesn't need to know that. I want you to focus at your station over there okay.
Whatever i do or say or what he says you must never leave the control station okay.
I hand picked you for this. Don't let me down." Dr Harris said sternly but quietly.
"What are you two talking about, me?" Dan said a little uneasy.
"I am just giving her instructions for her role, i want her to stay focus on the instruments. So just pretend its me and you in this room."
"Okay."
"Now we will begin. I want you to lay back and relax, take some easy breaths. You will feel a little funny sensation like before. Nothing to worry about, its to induce you into a deeper and calmer state. Infact you will almost be asleep. Sort of a REM state."
"Yeah, i remember."
"Only this time it should go smoother for you. If you feel severally agitated we will pull you out. However with the results from last time i think we have ironed out the rough edges in the system."
"Thats good."
"Okay, Rebecca administer the first and second stage please."
"It will take affect rapidly no need to be alarmed Dan."
A few minutes passes in silence.
"He's ready Dr." Rebecca said.
"Good. Okay Dan. Do you hear me clearly?"
"Yes, clearly." Dan replied. His eyes are shut but the instrument panel is alive with activity reflecting off the glasses of the assistant.
"Okay lets start at your most vivid memory. At the motel the morning it seemed to all start for you."
***********
You stir a little as the dull pain edges into your consciousness, slowly your eyelids open revealing a ceiling in the dim morning light.
Still staring at the ceiling flat on your back on a bed you are a loss as to where you are. The mind fumbling through possibilities but this place you do not know how or why you came to be here.
As your brain begins to wake up gradually as other things come to your senses, a quiet drone of traffic can be heard, a busy day is once again starting. A weight on your right hand feels heavy. You head feels like a bowling ball meaning you must of had a heavy night on the booze again.
Your throat parched for water. The smell of booze still lingers on your clothing and breath.
Some weird smell is in the room.
You turn your head towards the window, the curtains are shut but you can see the bright morning light illuminating the edges.
Motel Room
A king size bed sits relatively in the middle of the room up against the left side wall. Which you are currently are laying upon. A bedside cabinet sits on the left side of the king size bed.
A two mirror door wardrobe is against the wall opposite the bed. The wardrobe doors are currently closed. The main motel door faces east to the far right of the bed. An arm chair sits left of the bed against the back wall near the bedside cabinet, directly opposite that on the other side of the room is a wide-screen television. The window with closed curtains is to the right of the main door. Also here is a bathroom door. Exits are east and west.
